Army Veteran, Single Parent, Fitness Trainer, Fitness Competitor, Podcast Host and Chef, PJ Cowan does it all. Currently residing in Atlanta, GA, he is ready to take on 2024.
PJ’s military career started in 1999 when he signed up for the Infantry fresh out of high school. He began his basic training & AIT in Fort Benning, Georgia. Following that he went to Fort Carson, Colorado where he got his EIB(expert infantryman badge) his first year with his unit. PJ was able to fast track and received the NCO Sergeant & team leader role. During his time at Fort Carson he was deployed to Iraq for a year . Following his time there he was sent to Georgia as part of the National Guard. That didn’t last long as PJ decided after two months that it wasn't for him. In 2005 he was then deployed back to Iraq for a year. While in Iraq he received his combat infantry badge. Things however quickly changed when PJ was injured and had to go through two surgeries on his leg. Unfortunately things didn't go as planned, the surgeries were not successful and PJ had to retire from the military.
In 2010, PJ moved with his family to Oklahoma where he finished his schooling in health and fitness. Shortly after he was contracted overseas with the Department of State doing private security. He got called with the Armour group and was stationed in Afghanistan for a year following that he was contracted by Triple Canopy and spent 2 years in Iraq doing Diplomatic Security Work. His children at the time were very young and he realized it was time to focus on his family and decided he would stay in the USA and begin building his own business in health and fitness.
Heading back into full on civilian life after leaving the Military, PJ decided to put his heart and soul into the Fitness Industry. He got into coaching football, soccer, basketball and Lacrosse. Unfortunately, due to personal family issues and a rough divorce, he had to pull back from his coaching. However where there is a will there's a way and In 2014, PJ opened Soulja Fit starting off with his supplements. With his passion for fitness, he decided to compete in 2015 with the WBFF and turned PRO. PJ not only competed in 8 shows but also worked many of them as stage manager or MC. During this time he began taking on clients. He was training those who wanted to compete and put many clients on stage. He was training those who wanted a lifestyle change and those looking for a transformation. As if that isn’t enough he also has done meal prep and nutritional coaching including being a private chef.
In 2022, PJ decided not only does he have a story to tell, but there are so many out there that do as well and just aren’t given that platform. He decided that he would launch “Raw and Real Vet Talk”.
This won’t be just an ordinary podcast, as PJ is not just an ordinary man. He is open and honest and ready to speak on all those hard topics people are scared to speak about. You will hear about life in the Army, what it's like to be a single dad in today's world. His views on certain politics and how he sees the system when it comes to his kids. You will also learn why fitness became such a huge part of his life and why he enjoys training others. Raw and Real Vet Talk will feature guests from the Entertainment Industry, the Fitness Industry, Single Dads, Ex Veterans and many more. Pj is giving others a platform to share their stories as well of difficult times and overcoming them. This is an opportunity for great conversation and a little debate.
Serving 8.5 years in the US Army and then learning how to be a civilian again, PJ learnt a lot of hard truths. Finding balance in life for many can be difficult, but even more so after the army. He has taught himself that one of the most important things in life is finding a way to love yourself and do what makes you happy.
2024 is looking bright for PJ Cowan. You can train with PJ, hear his voice on Raw and Real Vet Talk, he has just relaunched his fitness company “Soulja Fit Lifestyle” out of Atlanta, GA, has been MCing events, and who knows, you may even catch him on stage competing again. The opportunities are endless and we can’t wait for the world to get to know his greatness.
